With menopause comes a decline in hormones—particularly oestrogen. In the skin this leads to less elasticity, less collagen, more dryness and more wrinkles. We tend to notice these changes particularly around the neck, jawline and cheeks. Skin becomes drier and we may notice the appearance of more wrinkles and fine lines such as crow’s feet, upper lip lines etc.

Here are some tips on keeping ahead of the game!

Use Cosmeceutical/Medical Skin Products

Cosmetic products, those that you can buy over the counter or online, don’t tend to have much effect as we age. High strength ingredients that can penetrate the skin will have more effect on the skin. You may be surprised but it doesn’t always cost that much more!

Try ZO Skin Health developed by Dr Zein Obagi.

Develop good skin care habits

Even if you have never done so before, now is the time to develop good skin care habits. Your skin can help you to look more youthful for the future but it needs a little time and input from you.

Cleanse

This is always important as it removes impurities from the skin.  But, as your skin will tend towards more dryness, you may need to opt for a cleanser that will hydrate and not strip your skin of its moisture. Try ZO Hydrating Cleanser.

Exfoliate

As we age the turnover of the skin becomes sluggish and the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin can give a flat, grey appearance to the skin. Exfoliating 1-2 times weekly with a gentle scrub will encourage removal of the dead skin cells, speed up the skin's turnover, improve blood flow to the skin and reveals bright glowing skin.

Try ZO Exfoliating Polish.

Antioxidants

Put simply; antioxidants reduce the damage to skin cells. Our skin cells are being continually damaged, so getting some antioxidants into the skin can kick ass!

Try ZO Daily Power Defense or ZO C-Bright.

Retinol

This is the boss when it comes to anti-ageing. It stimulates new cell production, fades age spots and photo-ageing, reduces lines and wrinkles, tightens pores, evens texture. There is not a great deal it doesn’t do. This is definitely one of my favourites with it's all round effects and results that you can see in around 6 weeks. Just beware as not all retinol’s are the same.

Try ZO Advanced Radical Night Repair.

SPF

Older skin has less natural protection so protect the skin using an SPF of 30 or more every day.

Try ZO Sunscreen & Primer SPF 30 or ZO Daily Sheer SPF 50

Hands

The backs of hands can really be a tell-tale sign of age. To protect hands, make sure to wear gloves when washing up or working in the garden.

To improve the look of your hands, try ZO Body Emulsion
