Thread Vein Removal

Thermavein® is a clinically proven, instant, safe and effective treatment for red veins, often referred to as thread veins or spider veins.

About The Treatment

Thread veins, also known as spider veins (telangiectasia) are thin veins, close to the surface of the skin, which have become enlarged, and hence visible and unsightly.

ThermaVein® uses thermo-coagulation delivered via a skin probe which seals the vein walls, causing them to disappear. Unlike other treatments such as IPL and Lasers, ThermaVein® cannot cause loss of pigmentation, is suitable for all skin types, and can be used on men and women.

TheramVein® can be used on any part of the body, common treatment areas include the face and arms.

For leg veins, we offer sclerotherapy treatment in clinic.

What are the benefits of ThermaVein®?

  • Safe – little risk of burns, bruising, necrosis or pigmentation

  • Quick – treatments usually take around 20 minutes

  • Effective – the practitioner wears a visualiser headlamp that provides accurate and targeted treatment. Veins usually disappear immediately and often only one treatment is required to see significant results

  • Minimal pain – reports from patients describe it as being similar to having a hair plucked.

Before any treatment can be suggested, you will require a consultation to ascertain your concerns, medical history and suitability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

ThermaVein® uses a process called Thermocoagulation - based on a high frequency wave producing a thermal lesion with protection of the skin. Thermocoagulation works by gently joining the two walls of the vein together, causing it to collapse. The tiny collapsed vein is then absorbed by the body.

What Does it Feel Like?
The treatment is relatively pain-free. Some patients have described it as feeling like a hair being plucked.

Is it safe?

Yes – ThermaVein treatments have been safely performed thousands of times, all over the world. Unlike laser or IPL, it targets only the specific veins, rather than generalised areas, meaning there is minimal risk of damaging neighbouring tissue.

How fast will I see results?
In many cases, one treatment is sufficient. Results are instant and permanent. Although the vein is permanently destroyed, over time new veins can develop.
In some cases a second or third treatment may be necessary.

Will I have to change my plans for the day?
No - there is no downtime and you can continue your day as normal.

Will I need a review?
We recommend a review 6 weeks after your treatment to asses if further treatment is necessary.

How much does it cost?
Dependant on the area and number of areas being treated, ThermaVein® starts at £75.
